The main point to note is not that it’s an e-bike but that it’s a battery that caused the fire. Mobile phone batteries, camera batteries, etc. are also fair game for fires.

I’m saying it again. Never buy cheap non branded internet connected devices, which seem to originate mainly from China. 

Even Google gets things wrong but they can patch quickly (until the product reaches EOL) so what do you think the non branded device manufacturer will do?

To be fair, China food scandals grab a lot of attention worldwide due to the lives cost. This scandal may also cost lives but I reckon it will get less attention because it will likely be one or two degrees of separation.
